Vienna, Austria

Approximately 4800 miles away from the town of Louisville, KY there is a family that wakes up every morning to a town enriched with palaces, waterfalls and all the bells and whistles of royalty.  These images would cause one to wonder if our surroundings play an integral part in how we live our life and our appreciation for our community.  If you were reminded daily of your royal ancestry perhaps you would walk a little taller, speak confidently and exert all of the character traits associated with your history.

What's your opinion? How does these images speak to you?

  1. erika, i agree! when i was in capetown i wondered the same thing. like how can people wake to such a beautiful view of the mountains and not appreciate God's presence in our lives. i hate the scenery of my block - i see poverty, too much concrete and nice cars drive past and remind me of how broke i am!

  2. I also agree with this statement. I think the environment/surroundings play a part in our lives. It can determine our behavior, habits learned from others, as well as our character. The pictures above represent their history, culture, and pride in their country. I've never been to Venice, but I would bet their attitudes, behaviors, and outlook on life, etc is way different compared to here in Louisville KY.

  3. I agree with your statement. This reminds me of the importance of understanding your local history. There are a lot of historical facts here in Louisville, but it is not often taught. I've been to Venice, Italy, and other places abroad. Pride in your city and country has to be taught. When I was in Venice the locals could tell me the history, which I bet was taught generation to generation. We need to do the same thing.

How could one wake up to such beauty and majesty and not feel like royalty. Having humbling beginnings, in my youth, I used to look forward to going to bed at night to escape the reality of poverty, and would dream about the lives that I saw lived out on shows like Dynasty. Unfortunately, I still woke up to poverty. As a result, I grew up with low self-esteem, wondering can anything good come out of… Thankfully, God adopted me, which changed my identity to help me see the beauty in me. Since some of us may never be able to experience places as beautiful as the ones in Vienna, Austria, we have to educate ourselves/others on the strength and beauty that our people come from.
